The Illinois Brick Company led by president William Schlake has acquired about fourteen acres along Lake Calumet west shore at Kensington avenue for about 30000 dollars. The tract, 631 by 500 feet, adjoins other property and previously housed a brick factory destroyed by fire. Schlake recently leased about ten acres to manufacturers who have option to buy within five years at 10000 dollars per acre, with plans to use the land for munition production employing a large workforce.
