Millionaire Payette Nearing One Third Of $14 Million Estate

Edward J. Payette of 11550 Perry avenue has fought 29 years for a one third share of a Canadian estate valued around $14,000,000 left by Francois Payette of Montreal. His attorney Harry J. Berman in Montreal oversees the claim with the American consul as the grandfather’s will directs distributions to his three sons and their wives until their deaths or marriages out of the name.

Illinois Car Owners Risk Arrest In Indiana For No Plates

Chicago readers are told by the Chicago Motor Club touring bureau that Indiana law requires current year plates on all cars. Violators may face fines up to 25 dollars. Illinois requires timely application for new plates by January 1 and allows driving with proof of application until plates arrive.

Dalton Village Approves Purchase of Snow Plow

At a special meeting the Dalton Village Board voted to buy a sidewalk snow plow from Austin Manufacturing Co for 350 dollars. The plow attaches to a large truck and can clear drifts up to four feet high, speeding road and sidewalk access during heavy snow. The device is already in operation and expected to repay its cost in the current storm.

City halted engine house operations last week due to lack of funds but the mayor did not pass the budget and the firemen have returned to work. A plate depicting the closing was omitted this week for space but will appear next week.

Dolton Riverdale and Ivanhoe in Thornton Township have completed their tax book figures. A general committee meeting in the Wm. Maurer office last Monday formed a team to meet the Board of Assessors and press acceptance of the agreed figures. The committee includes Maurer, Dickerman, Price, Holmes, Connors, Stahnke, Kirsch, Woosnam, Berger and Kinney.
