Tomato growers urged to attend a meeting at the village hall in South Holland on Saturday February 7 1942 at 2:00 p.m. to discuss tomato contracts. Farm adviser A Hughes is calling the session for participants in tomato production.
On Saturday January 2 1 Jeannette Vlietstra of South Holland married Elmer R Wettour. Rev Arthur Petznik officiated at 5 30 p m in Glenwood church with Lucille Vlietstra maid of honor and Dolores Wettour bridesmaid. Best man Erwin Wettour and ushers Larry Vinck Andrew Vlietstra attended. The couple plan a Chicago home after a short honeymoon.
Farm Adviser Hughes urges farmers to seek tires for trucks used in marketing farm produce and farming operations at local civilian defense headquarters to obtain an inspector’s OK. Then apply to the Rationing Committee which will allocate tires per rules. any unclaimed tires by month’s end are lost.
Lansing will host the Calumet region bowling event at Follmar Lanes February 21 22 28 and March 1. The Lansing Journal sponsors the teams doubles and singles events with handicaps based on February 1 averages. ABC sanction limits a bowler to one entry per event.
Rev John Buteyn will be installed as minister of Bethel Reformed Church in a Friday night service at 8 pm. The rite features neighboring pastors and speakers from First Reformed South Holland Englewood Lansing and Grace Reformed. Music by the church choir directed by Diena Tyson accompanies the ceremony. Red Cross reports no new units due to supply shortages and filled quotas. existing units will curtail production.
The Roosevelt school Parent-Teachers association plans a February 25 benefit in South Holland to raise funds for finishing the new amplifying system. The event features entertainment from local organizations and invites all women and the community to attend and participate.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Amptmeyer of 111 East 159th Street hold an open house for their 25th wedding anniversary on Friday February 13 from 2 to 5 PM. The couple wed February 14 1917 at the Christian Reformed Church of South Holland. They have six children five living and one deceased and will be joined by their parents and relatives for a 7:30 PM wedding supper at the village hall.
Pastor J S Ter Louw presides with sermons titled When a Church Really Succeeds in English at 9 30 a m and 7 30 p m. Sunday school at 11 00 a m. Holland language preaching at 2 p m. Christian Endeavor at 6 30 p m. Dr Cornelius R Wierangi professor on furlough in India preaches. Everyone welcome.

Community notices invite farmers to discuss the 1942 sugar program and beet contracts. Meetings led by C A Hughes, Farm Adviser, occur Monday Feb 9 at Sunnybrook school east of Glenwood Lansing road. Tuesday Feb 10 at Farm Bureau Hall Blue Island. and Tuesday Feb 10 evening at McKinley school South Holland.
Colored movies will be shown and free lunch served. A door prize of 10 lbs. of sugar will be given away.
The Tuberculosis Institute of Chicago and Cook County will sponsor a free screening program in Phoenix and South Holland schools. On February 17, tuberculin skin tests will be offered at no charge and positive reactors will receive follow up chest X rays. Home request slips will be sent to all school children to obtain parental consent for testing.
