Free Mrs Hall Kin of Murder Charges Free
In Somerville New Jersey all charges against the Hall Mills defendants were dismissed on motion of Attorney General Edward L Katzerbach before Supreme Court Justice Charles W Parker. Mrs Frances Stevens Hall and her brothers Henry and Willie Stevens were freed from pending indictments though an earlier jury acquitted them of the Mills murder. Senator Simpson complained the trial was unfair and a resignation by the appointed prosecutor followed.

Gasoline tax opposition by Chicago leaders
Chicago and Cook County oppose Governor Small's proposed 2 cent gasoline tax arguing they deserve a larger share of road funding. County President Anton J. Cermak leads the board in pushing for more new roads, noting the county's 33 percent of license fees yields only 5 percent of the 100 million bond issue, with prior allocations at 38 percent of the 60 million. Republican control centralizes committee leadership, leaving Democrats with limited chairmanships.
