Midwest Sugar Plant at Riverdale Closes Amid Slump in Sugar Prices
The Midwest Sugar Refining Corporation, successor to the Chas. Pope Beet Sugar Works of Riverdale, shuts down due to persistently low sugar values. Auditor E. W. Boehm explains heavy losses in 1925, bond issues, and a failed sale attempt while noting the plant's riverfront site and 14 acres of land may attract a future industry. The bank sale yielded no bids, and the owner may bid to protect a $128,000 loan. outlook remains uncertain for several years.
