Auto strike injures three at dangerous Riverdale crossing

Miss Anna DeRidder bindery chief at The Pointer and her sister Mrs. John Klinkhammer were seriously injured when Albin Lundin of Thornton drove a car into them Tuesday at Indiana avenue and 137th street Riverdale. The sister’s son Cornelius escaped unharmed. DeRidder suffered a fractured pelvic bone and both women were treated at Dr Weidner’s office before the injured were sent to Blue Island hospital. Lundin was held on $500 bond with a preliminary hearing set for December 12. Local authorities plan to install Stop and Go signs at the crossing to curb future incidents.

Dolton Village to Hold Special Meeting on Bond Issue

Murder of South Chicago Heights Police Chief

LeRoy Gilbert chief of police was shot to death in his home last night by suspected members of an alcohol ring. He was reading in a chair when a vehicle drove up and a shotgun fired through a side window. His wife lost a finger in the attack, and their eldest daughter, 18, rushed to his side as the assailants fled. The Allen Hotel Riverdale announces meals served starting this week.

Race Course at Dolton to Get $2,500,000 Improvements

More than a hundred workers are on the project to upgrade the Dolton race course at Washington Park Jockey Club. Officials say the new clubhouse and grandstand enhancements will be finished by next June, boosting capacity and crowd flow for the upcoming season. total outlay is not fixed but may reach about $2.5 million with brick or stucco exteriors and 850 boxes in a 160 by 312 foot clubhouse.

Indiana Avenue Crossing Crash Sparsley Injures Seven

Seven men in a large sedan including William Hagen of Dalton were struck by an Indiana Harbor Belt freight train backing up over the crossing on Indiana Avenue Sunday at 11 pm. The car was wrecked but occupants escaped with minor scratches. The crossing lacks protection amid heavy traffic on the newly paved highway.
