Riverdale New Sewer Plan Advances After Lengthy Negotiations

After months of talks with property owners on 188th Street Riverdale, an agreement paves the way for a 40 foot street with a 20 foot pavement and 10 foot curbs each side. County and state cooperation follows a price adjustment, with the village board noting progress on lights and street work and plans to intersect sewage with a Calumet region network including Riverdale and nearby towns.

Diedrich Retires Deputy Coroner in Blue Island

An overheated furnace at Lincoln Avenue School triggered a fire department call on Tuesday afternoon at 3 oclock. Damage was small and the fire drill proceeded, with pupils dismissed in moments and no confusion reported.

Death of Dolton Resident John Messerschmidt at 67

John Messerschmidt of Dolton died Saturday December 8 after a throat illness. Born March 30 1861 in Allendorf Germany he came to America in 1883. Survived by widow Katherine and five sons and five daughters with numerous grandchildren. funeral held at St Pauls Lutheran church and interment at Oakland cemetery conducted by Rev Kemnitz.

Simple Riverdale Wedding Unites Hameister and Giffin

Miss Helen Hameister daughter of Mr and Mrs Chas Hameister wed Mr James G Giffin on December 8 in Riverdale. Rev Kemnitz officiated. Attendants Miss Dorothy Hankey and Mr George Bohl. A pink and white reception followed at Riverdale Village hall with a seven piece orchestra and late refreshments. The couple reside at 13822 Michigan Avenue.

Tragedy Strikes South Chicago Heights Kursed Driving Incident

Thomas Scanlon a Chicago Heights Star pressman was killed near Commercial avenue and the highway after a gunmen ambush. Alvin Soderberg escaped with minor injuries as special police briefly patrolled the roads. A second motorist Carl Kick Horn also escaped when bullets hissed past. Police face difficulty identifying the armed patrols blamed for the shooting.
