The villages Dalton and Riverdale posted record turnout with votes rising since 1923. Riverdale elected Independent Republican control. Dalton favored Peoples Party. Park District proposition carried in Dalton. several local offices decided by vote and potential lot drawing for ties. Three Riverdale youths killed as train strikes car on Ridge Road

A Chevrolet coach carrying four Highlawn boys was hit by a Pennsylvania passenger train at a Ridge Road crossing in Lansing. Clarence Bishop and August Belz died at once. Raymond Trapp died later at Hammond, while Chester Bernard survived. Inquest dates and unguarded crossing cited. families and community mourn.

Panhandle Railroad Plans End of Daily Passenger Trains

The Panhandle Railroad will discontinue the two daily passenger trains between the Bernice cut-off and Chicago starting next Sunday with Saturday the last day. Mail and accommodation trains have operated for over 50 years through Dalton and Riverdale, but declining patronage forced the cutback. Services will shift to the Bernice cut-off line to Chicago via Englewood.

Manhole Explosion Injures Three Boys Near Bowen School

Three boys ages 9, 8, and 7 playing with a toy motor boat on 187th Place near Bowen school lit a sterno fueled match, triggering a manhole cover to rise four feet as flames erupted. Edward Gallegos suffered burns on arms and face while Ralph Squires and James Carlyle were burned but less severely. Gas company workers traced the danger to a defective gas pipe feeding the sewer, and the boys escaped serious harm.

Dalton Post Office Adopts New Opening Hours and Mail Schedule

Telephone Co to Headquarter South Side Exchanges

Illinois Bell Telephone Co signs a five year lease for 7500 square feet on the second floor of the F. & W. Grand Building at 113th Street and Michigan Avenue. The move brings about 200 employees to the South End and covers Beverly, Chesterfield, South Chicago, Riverdale, Pullman and Commodore exchanges. Possession is June 1 with $9000 annual rent for five years and a 10 000 yearly option for five more. The building is due for completion May 1 with full occupancy by June 1.
