High School Students Win Science Awards
Thornton and Thornridge high schools earned multiple first place honors at the Wares Junior Academy of Science district meet held April 9 at Illinois Tech. First place winners from Thornridge were Zimmerman, Michael Brown, Fred Shapas, and John DeJong. Thornton first place recipients included Dave Adams, Janean Buckmaster, John Godwin, Robert Gunn, Dan Lester, Merry Ring, Charles Stanfield and Ed Sylvestrak.

The Riverdale police invite the public to a Saturday night dance at Art's Roll-Awe Rink 349 E 147th Harvey. Music by Curly Mottinger's Orchestra begins at 9 pm with ample parking and space to dance. A $1 ticket supports youth events and police equipment. Tickets at the door.

Fire disrupts two Riverdale incidents on Halsted street
Fire crews responded to two vehicle fires in Riverdale. On April 11 a car at 14519 Halsted caught fire and on April 14 a vehicle at 140th and Halsted overheated due to a ventilator fan issue. No injuries reported.

March Home Building Falls to a New Low

Car Overturns Injuring Driver in Chicago Incident
Moses Whitaker, 20, of 3618 Vernon, Chicago, was treated at St Francis hospital after his car overturned in a drainage ditch at 145th and Halsted on April 15. Police said he was driving south on Halsted when an unidentified vehicle turned left onto 145th. Whitaker, who was speeding for the conditions, was arrested.

New High School May Be Needed in District 205
Dr H C Church of Indiana University told the UHS district 205 board that a third high school may be necessary within five years if Thornton township growth continues. He and Dr Ernest M Hanson analyzed permits and enrollments, noting Thornton's current 2500 and Thornridge's 1000 students with expected rises to 3000 and 1590 this fall.
