Churches across the community plan solemn Holy Week observances from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday. Catholic and Protestant parishes mark the Last Supper, crucifixion, and the Resurrection with Masses, services, and choir cantatas. Sandridge Methodist and Our Savior’s Lutheran announce Holy Week schedules and Easter programs including a joint Good Friday service and Easter breakfast.
Linda Zimmer 17 of 14706 Perry Avenue mourns as her nine year old pinto Kiowa-Conquistador is destroyed after his owner Richard Ortega 33 is injured when the horse bolts into traffic near Trying and Silly Dalton. Catherine Maggio 20 and Raymond Cranell 38 suffer minor injuries. Dr Harold Moe treated the horse and was cut by the animal.
The Pointer invites children ages 6 to 11 to enter the Easter coloring contest sponsored by First National Bank in Dalton and First Trust Savings Bank of Riverdale. Entries due by April 19 in bank boxes. three judges will select winners with prizes of 15, 10, 5 dollars and ten 1 dollar honorable mentions. results to be announced in the April 21 issue.
The Ivanhoe Woman's Club holds its annual meeting on April 19 at 8 pm at Ivanhoe Park fieldhouse. Officers will be elected and reports from chairmen given. A guest will review The Hugh Roof by Joy Packer, set in South Africa. Banquet plans, Federation convention details, and luncheon events are announced with dates and hosts.
Riverdale officials announced the completion of a tunnel beneath the Illinois Central rail line at 146th Street as part of the Ivanhoe sanitary sewer system. Di Paolo Latrobe Engineering began work December 10 with tunneling 22 feet deep for 200 feet under the railroad and a $100000 pump station planned at Union near the Calumet River to manage high water.
City sales tax collections totaled 4 407 799 with county collections at 193 606 reported to Governor Stratton by the Illinois Department of Revenue. The one half per cent tax applied to January retail sales in municipalities and non municipal county areas. Riverdale received 4 06615, South Holland 2 92031, and Dolton wages 5 14388.
Dolton police are holding four boys bikes at the station awaiting identification. Inquiries can be made by contacting the Dolton police.
Voters cast ballots last Saturday April 9 in four districts. District 233 elected seven members including Nelson Schroeder Canty Matthews Roberts Rachels and Dominic, while Rinken Jones Dahmar were defeated. District 151 South Holland elected Ravesfoot and Ridenour to two seats, with How ard Henneberry Jonas Goetz Basica losing. District 205 Thornton Thornridge High and Thornton Junior College saw Gouwens and Reese win unopposed with large majorities. Voters also approved transferring $70000 to remodel Thornton Township high school for new machine shops by 3611 to 1327.
Two divers were injured in a Riverdale auto collision at 142nd and Walsted on April 3. George McCray, 23, of 15836 Park, Harvey, suffered facial lacerations and Anton Bogadas, 30, of 12541 Union, Chicago, received arm chest and eye injuries. Both were treated at Ingalls Memorial Hospital. Police say McCrary drove north on Halsted and crossed into Bogadas southbound car. McCrary was arrested for negligent driving driving on the wrong side of the road and for driving without a license.

Grace Lutheran and Grace Evangelical designate Rev Hugo Goetz as guest pastor on Easter Sunday. First Reformed Church hosts Good Friday 7 30 p m service and musical offerings. Community Reformed of Dolton holds Maundy Thursday candlelit Lord’s Supper at Lincoln School auditorium with cantata portions sung by the church choir under Curtiss Coyle. St Mary’s Catholic observes Holy Week with multiple Masses and a liturgy on Good Friday 3 p m. Lansing Christian Reformed marks Easter Sunrise at 6 30 a m at the Ilana gym with Dr Melvin Hagen. Dr David Howerda lecture set for April 19 at 8 p m.
