In Thornton and Calumet townships voters chose party nominees for November. Arthur Dillner defeated Louis Kamykowski for township committeeman. James Gouwens won Thornton Republican committeeman. Former Dolton Resident Killed in Chicago Heights

Earl Higgins, 44, of 44 Mahon Street Hammond Indiana a former Riverdale and Dolton resident was killed Wednesday morning after falling from the rear footboard of a locomotive tender in the C E I railroad yards at Chicago Heights Illinois. An inquest was held at the West End funeral home in Chicago Heights. His widow is Mabel Albrecht of Dalton. Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon at Bachmann funeral home.

Assistant Chief Lester Brookfelt Patrolman Arthur Ruff of Riverdale and Patrolman Alfred Kort of Dalton joined 4 of 39 police and army officers who finished a two week Traffic Officers Training School at Northwestern University. Victory Book Collection Targeted for April 17

President Roosevelt announced Victory Book Day for Friday April 17 to urge Americans to donate good books for soldiers, sailors, and Marines. Community centers Bowen school library Dalton theatre and Pointer office will collect books, which will be sent to a central library and distributed to armed forces overseas and at home.

Dolton War Scrap Drive Seeks Neighborhood Help

Dolton residents are urged to set out metal and rubber scrap, papers, and rags on Saturday April 18 for collection by volunteers. Materials will fund Dolton Civilian Defense Council expenses while aiding war production and arming American forces. Collectors will load materials onto trucks donated by local businessmen beginning at eight o clock.

Riverdale Boy Scout Troop 9 and Hazelcrest Troop 39 are the first in Pottawattomi Trails council to gain an A rating at a regional first aid meet held at Mooseheart Illinois last Saturday April 11. Acme Band Plans April 19 Concert at Lincoln School

The Acme Steel concert band directed by Norman Beasley will open its 1942 season Sunday April 19 at 2 30 PM in Lincoln school auditorium Dalton. Admission is free with part of the program a Memorial Service honoring armed forces men led by L E Brookfelt. Beasley, a new director, is a graduate of Southern Illinois teachers college and has studied in Chicago.

Funeral Services for Herbert Hawes Held in Dolton

Herbert Hawes 73 died April 10 at his Riverdale residence. Services were held April 13 at Bachmann Funeral Home with Rev. Milton S Freeman officiating. Burial in Oakland Cemetery Dolton. He was born January 23 1869 in Weld Maine and lived in Riverdale since 1911 as a barber and former Riverdale special police officer. He leaves Lena his widow a son Herbert a daughter Mrs Selle of Homewood a brother Alvin Chicago and a sister Mrs Mabel Meyers Edger ton Kansas.

School Election Results for District 148 and 133

In District 148 last Saturday Anne De Ridder was elected president of the board for an unexpired one year term with 95 votes. Roy Nelson and Herbert Hinze won three year terms with 97 and 94 votes respectively, while George W. Allen won an unexpired two year term with 93 votes. Total votes were Lincoln 54 and Washington school 48. In District 133 Riverdale Bowen school Louis E Reich was re elected as a board member and will serve as president.

Man Leaps to Death From Calumet River Bridge

The Riverdale area mourns Frank Bujarski 51 of 12334 Green Street Calumet Park after he jumped from the Halsted Street bridge into the Calumet River late Tuesday. Rescue teams from Riverdale and Doton battled currents for an hour before his body was recovered and pronounced dead by Dr. John A. Kollar. An inquest was held Wednesday at the mortuary on Burr Oak Avenue Calumet Park.

Garden Program Planned for Woman's Club Meeting

The Dalton Riverdale Woman's Club will meet Tuesday afternoon April 21 with gardening as the theme. Mrs Gilman Bower of the Ivanhoe Garden Club will discuss care of house plants. Police Apprehend Youths for Burglary at Riverdale Bowing Lanes
