Sen. Pete Domenici seeks support for a plan allowing flat grave markers at Santa Fe National Cemetery to free space for veterans casketed burials by 2000. The site began as a half acre in 1868, became national in 1875, and now covers 77 acres. Flat markers need four by eight foot plots or three by eight pre set crypt sites, while upright stones require five by ten plots.
