Santa Ana Star Casino teams with Albuquerque Recycling Inc to host an e recycling event Saturday from 9 to 1. Drop off computers printers monitors cell phones stereos and more at the casino. some items incur recycling fees while TVs are not accepted.
Rio Rancho Public Schools shows 41.4 percent of teachers rated highly effective or exemplary versus 28.6 percent statewide, with 2.1 percent ineffective, below the 5.4 percent statewide average. Overall ARPS 82.4 percent rated effective, higher than the state 71.3 percent.
Sandoval County will not use Star Center as a polling place for the November 8 election due to a major music event. Rio Rancho City Hall at 3200 Civic Center Circle will serve as the area voting location, and voters may use any listed convenience center on the county elections site.
A national report by Attendance Works and Johns Hopkins says Rio Rancho Public Schools has higher chronic absenteeism, with 17 percent of ARPS students missing at least 15 days in 2013-14. Across the U.S. 6.5 million students were chronically absent, concentrated in about 4 percent of districts. Albuquerque Public Schools did not participate due to data format issues.
Rio Rancheans gathered September 10 to celebrate the Pooch Plunge at Haynes Pool with dogs swimming and playing Frisbees and balls. Families and couples enjoyed sun while pets swam laps as the event signals pool season end. An adoption and donation drive coordinated by Pet Food Gone Wild occurred at Haynes Park, with photos by Zita Fletcher.
Former RRHS athletes Michael McDermott and Zach Kamm launch The MAC, a multi sport training center at the Rio Rancho High School campus. The facility evolves from the Iceoplex and Blades Multiplex Arenas, to host indoor outdoor volleyball, baseball and basketball training, with an ice rink retained for hockey, skating and open skating.
State police and APD testified about the manhunt for Andrew Romero after Rio Rancho officer Gregg Benner was killed in May 2015. Officers described multi agency coordination, pursuit by helicopter, a gas station stop, and a felony stop near the Sunport exit as the investigation moved toward Romero. The murder trial began September 8 and resumes Monday.
Albuquerque Asphalt Inc. wins a $934,188 contract from the Albuquerque city council to begin the Sara Road rehabilitation this fall. Mayor Hull was absent. Dawnn Robinson presided. Mathew O'Grady, director of public works, outlined the plan and timeline.
