Rio Rancho boards set brief agenda for Monday meeting

Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the district offices board room at 500 Laser Road with a 4 p.m. executive session. Items include appointing a management representative to the local labor board and approving a 1.17 million dollar allocation from the Public Schools Facilities Authority for equipment under the Broadband Deficiencies Correction Program.

Romero guilty in officer's death verdict in New Mexico

Andrew Romero was found guilty of first degree murder for shooting Rio Rancho police officer Gregg Benner during a traffic stop on Memorial Day. The nine women and three men jury delivered the verdict as Officer Steve Montafio wept and Julie Benner embraced supporters. Judge George Eichwald set a two week sentencing hearing, but Romero faces life in prison without parole.

Rio Rancho interns join hospital training program

Project SEARCH expands to Rio Rancho with 11 graduates interning at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center. The 30 week program provides hands on experience across hospital departments in partnership with Rio Rancho Public Schools Adelante Development Center NM Vocational Rehab NDH UNM ICD and area schools. A graduation ceremony is planned for the end of the school year.
