Rio Rancho’s Early Growth and Civic Development Timeline
Rio Rancho begins with American Realty and Petrolem Co building model homes in 1962, 63 saw first houses near 21st Avenue, Grande Boulevard, then a 1967 volunteer fire department. The Golf and Country Club opened 1970, Cibola High School started 1973 and dedicated 1975, city incorporation began in 1978 with a 1981 civic election and police force, Intel plant completed in 1982, bond approved for main fire station, and KS district schools and public safety departments expanded through 1980s, city population grows to 25,000 by 1986.
