First Christmas show kicks off season with prizes and crafts

Oct 4 features a free 1 pm raffle with two giant Christmas packages, vendor specials on art crafts services and products, roasted green chile and last sweet corn. Music by David McCulloch with Geo's Mobile Bistro on site for both days plus seasonal events and a spring 2016 plant sale at Albuquerque Garden Center. Local stand up acts Darryl Rhoades Blair Thompson Genevieve Mueller perform at The Stage with doors 6:30 pm and show 7:30 pm. Book signings and bucket list talks accompany the events with Rio Grande Books and local authors.

Motown & Miracles concert returns to Albuquerque stage

Eddie Watkins Jr returns to Albuquerque for a 7 to 8 30 p m Motown and Miracles concert at the High Desert Center for Spiritual Living with an inspirational message at 10 a m Sunday. Advance tickets are 10 and 15 at the door. Santa Ana Star Casino hosts Miss Joy resident DJ at The Stage for Vegas Nights with a 5 10 cover and Facebook check in perks.

Tempest at the PAC by Nainay High drama students

Nainay High School theater students present William Shakespeare's The Tempest four times Thursday to Saturday October 15 to 17. All-ages performances start at evening times with a 1 pm Saturday matinee. Ticket prices run 8 for students and seniors, 10 for adults, and RRHS staff and students enter free. New Mexico UFO Conference Set With Noted Speakers

The New Mexico Chapter of MUFON will host the 2015 New Mexico UFO Conference on Saturday October 17 from 130 to 630 PM at Cleveland High Concert Hall. John Alexander Nick Pope and Nick Redfern headline with the theme What Does the Government Really Know. Mayor Gregg Hull proclaims UFO Research Day. Proceeds fund MUFON NM investigations and education. Pre registration advised with early bird 10 to 20 dollars until October 13.

New Mexico Philatelic Exhibition at Meadowlark for 10th year

The Rio Rancho Stamp Club and the Albuquerque Philatelic Society sponsor the NewMexPex stamp show at Meadowlark Senior Center. Regional clubs and dealers display world stamps with sales and door prizes. Admission and parking are free. hours are Oct 17 9 5 and Oct 18 9 4.

Placitas Star Party at Placitas Community Library

The Placitas Community Library hosts its annual Star Party on Saturday October 17 starting at dusk with sunset at 6 29 p m and continuing into the night. Co sponsored by Albuquerque Astronomical Society Rio Rancho Astronomical Society Las Placitas Association and the Placitas Community Library. More than 20 telescopes will guide guests through the night sky. Open to the public with no entrance fee or pre registration. Guests are urged to arrive early for parking and to observe telescope set up. Dress warmly and use red flashlights to protect night vision. Josh Suchon the Albuquerque Isotopes play by play announcer discusses his new true crime book Murder in Pleasanton at Bookworks on Rio Grande NW at 7 p.m. Tuesday Oct 20. He explains how a minor league baseball announcer wrote the story and how DNA solved a 27 year old murder, followed by a Q&A.

Over 70 New Mexico and Arizona authors will sign books and meet librarians at the New Mexico Library Association Annual Conference October 22 24 at the Marriott Pyramid Albuquerque. International film screening at Loma Colorado Main Library

An Italian language film with English subtitles screens Saturday Oct 24 at 2 pm at Loma Colorado Main Library. The story follows a cyclist being run off the road as the Bernaschi and Ossola families intersect amid themes of privilege, fate, and unexpected consequences.
