Argen Duncan named editor of Nucleus at Kirtland Air Force Base

Former Rio Rancho Observer writer Argen Duncan is named editor of the Nucleus, the Observer's sister paper covering Kirtland Air Force Base. She started the new role Monday after four years with the Observer, where she handled City Hall and police beats and designed most news pages. The Blessing of the Animals will be held Saturday at 2 pm at Community of Joy Church, 41 Saratoga Road, Rio Rancho. The outdoor service welcomes dogs, cats, snakes, horses, gerbils, hamsters, goats, sheep, birds and other pets in a brief celebration of God's love for all creatures.

Rio Rancho Public Schools approves new double A logo

Rio Rancho Public Schools board approves a new double A logo as part of a branding effort titled Igniting Student Potential. The design features red and yellow overlapping Rs and will appear on letterhead shirts and banners after focus groups helped narrow choices from about 600 options.

Whataburger moving into Rio Rancho at 4196 NM S28

Whataburger announces a new Rio Rancho restaurant with two drive-thru lanes and a dining room for about 48, featuring modern kitchen equipment and mural art. The site at 4196 NM S28 will open in late 2015 weather permitting. The Grand opening will follow construction completion.

Grace Youth Ranch Pumpkin Patch At Santa Ana Center

The pumpkin patch at Grace Youth Ranch runs through October 31 in the upper west parking lot of Santa Ana Star Center. Open Tuesday through Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 30 p.m. and Monday Oct 26 9 a.m. to 6 30 p.m no admission fee. Visitors enjoy activities such as corn pit maze scarecrow dress up and animal displays while selecting pumpkins onsite.

Walmart Fire Possibly Set as Diversion by Shoplifters

Four suspects attempted a diversionary fire in the Bernalillo Walmart early Saturday. A suspect lighted a clothing rack to distract staff while others filled carts and fled in an old Ford pickup. Sprinklers activated, causing merchandise damage. one suspect escaped with goods. Police offered few additional details.
