City files court papers to begin utility condemnation

City of Rio Rancho moves to condemn Rio Rancho Utilities Camp RRUC water and sewer systems after failed talks with General Water Works. A hearing set for February 1 1995 will determine fair purchase price. City offered 43.75 million. RRUC acquired for 42 million in 1991.

Parents sue in slaying of Rio Rancho teen

The father of a Rio Rancho boy killed July 4 sues Paul Lithgow Sr., father of the shooter, over the gun and supervision at the Lithgow home. Lithgow Jr. pleaded involuntary manslaughter and received a suspended two year sentence with probation.

Rio Rancho man killed on I-25

Rio Rancho man, 59, Richard Archambault of Corrales Heights, drove about seven miles the wrong way on I-25 near the Badaghers exit last Thursday and collided with a motor home. He was pronounced dead at the scene. State Police Maj. Frank Taylor said the former Cochiti Elementary School teacher apparently left his job in a good frame of mind before turning south at the Cochiti exit into northbound traffic. Witnesses saw him.

District seeks state funds for Rio Rancho schools

Rio Rancho Public Schools will ask the state for emergency capital funds to address a building shortage. The board considers a $12 million request from the Critical Capital Outlay Committee to finish a middle school and replace Mountain View Middle School, with potential direct state aid for a full high school. The district plans to use portable classrooms meanwhile and seeks a level playing field to close a 15 year building lag with nine elementary schools, three middle schools and a high school.
