A compiled slate of names including Jeff Bingaman Colin McMillan Tom Udall Donald Bruckner Jr Ray Powell Stirling Spencer Patricia Wolff Robert Perls Judy Vanderstar Russell District 60 Vince Martinez John Pope and 13th District Judge Mary Humphrey all affiliated with parties noted.
State Rep. Robert Perls, a Corrales Democrat, defeats Republican Judy Vanderstar Russell for District 44 in the House with 3431 votes or 54 percent. Corrales turnout gave Perls the edge as Vanderstar Russell pursued a negative campaign. Perls touted fiscal conservatism and opposed the 6 cent gas tax.
As Sandoval County tallies came in the rest of New Mexico followed suit with unofficial counts at press time. Gary Johnson led Bruce King for governor. in Sandoval Johnson 9 010 King 6 436 with 57 of 65 precincts reporting. Other returns include Schiff 2 485 over Zollinger 1 168 in District 1 and Richardson 8 018 to Bemis 4 909 in District 3 with 48 of 54 precincts. Bingaman led with 9 703 over McMillan 7 310 in District 3 with 37 of 65. Secretary of State candidate Stephanie Gonzales beat Gloria Baca Griego. Auditor Robert Vigil defeated H R Fine. Corporation Commissioner race saw Gloria Tustani 9 398 to Peggy Helgeson 6 843. Public Land Commissioner Ray Powell Jr led Stirling Spencer 8 552 to 6 271. Attorney General Tom Udall won 10 517 over Don Bruckner 6 194. State Treasurer Mike Montoya won 9 824 over Lorenzo Garcia 4 639. Sandoval Sheriff Ray Rivera 9 913 over Lisa Lutx 6 106. District 44 Robert Perls edged Judy Vanderstar Russell 3 431 to 2 942. Southern Sandoval Arroyo Flood Control Authority saw Chaney and Dom atop the field. Probate Judge Stevan Schoen led Mary Kwapich 6 978 to $401.
Ray Rivera, a retired Albuquerque Police Department deputy chief, leads Democrat rivals with 61.8 percent from 57 of 65 precincts, 9,913 votes to Lisa Lut’s 6,106 from Rio Rancho and Corrales. Lut contests result as precincts remain and Rivera vows stronger rural county leadership.
Tax bills mailed in 1994 Sandoval County show two reversed figures. County investment officer Cheryl Tucker cites a programming error from a new computer system, where the city levy was printed instead of the school levy.
With nearly all precincts tallied, incumbent John Chaney and newcomer James Domn won two seats on the Southern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority. Domn led with 40.8 percent (3,030 votes) and Chaney followed at 40.5 percent (3,011). Guy McDowell failed to win reelection.
