Rio Rancho Art Association Announces June Show

The Rio Rancho Art Association will host the judged RRAA Summer Show at Loma Colorado Main Library from June 1 to June 30 with a reception on Thursday June 4 from 5 30 to 7 30 p m. Pat Berrett will judge the art and ribbons will be awarded. The association meets monthly on the second Wednesday at Don Chalmer's Community Room NM 528.

State honors Haase and two historical officers

Santa Fe Rio Rancho Police Officer Anthony Haase, 24, was honored as his name was unveiled on the Law Enforcement Academy memorial wall along with two earlier officers. The wall now lists 198 fallen officers. Haase died in a late night crash while rushing to aid a beaten woman as a gun threat was reported. Griego, fatally shot in 1880 by fellow officer James Dunnigan while en route to jail, was honored alongside Pino, killed in 1933 in a gunfight after confronting a drunk bar patron.

Rio Rancho man pleads guilty to felon with gun charge

Ray Leyba, 35, of Rio Rancho, pleaded guilty in federal court in Albuquerque to felon in possession of a firearm. He admitted possessing a firearm and ammunition on Feb. 5 while prohibited by prior felony convictions of false imprisonment and aggravated assault. Sentencing possible up to 10 years. in custody awaiting hearing. Investigation by ATF and APD. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn Wei-Yu Wang prosecutes.

Settlement Aims at Class Waiver Over High Desert Lawsuit

Settlement talks show property owners as a class relinquishing the right to sue High Desert and Albuquerque Academy. About a third contacted the firm before a final fairness hearing, with payouts from 4000 to 60000 based on lot value, and the plan to apply into 2016. The 2012 suit alleged breach of contract and negligence after High Desert withdrew as Mariposa’s developer, leading to loan losses and repossession of an 800 acre Rio Rancho community.

Rio Rancho High Class of 2005 Reunion Plans

Rio Rancho High School 2005 graduates organize a reunion starting with a family tailgate at 5 p.m. Friday Sept 4 outside Rio Rancho Stadium, followed by the Rams game. A dinner and dance are set for Saturday Sept 5 from 6 p.m. to midnight at Sandia Golf Club Reception Center with Lenin and McCarthy, a DJ, photo booth, and cash bar.

Rio Rancho seeks utilities commission and city council applicants

The City of Rio Rancho invites applications for City Council Districts 1 3 5 and at large Utilities Commission seats. Terms end June 30. Four year term applicants should know water and wastewater operations. Meetings are the third Tuesday at 6 PM in City Hall. Eligible members earn 50 dollars monthly plus mileage and per diem. Apply with résumé by 5 PM June 26 at the City Clerk's Office. Call 891-5004 for details.
