Guided tours planned at Petroglyph National Monument

Rangers will begin guided hikes at Petroglyph National Monument on June 1. Public walks will cover Rinconada Canyon, the Volcanoes, and Piedras Marcadas Canyon, Thursdays through Sundays at 8 30 a.m., about 90 minutes. Bring water, hat, sunscreen. Call Las Imagines Visitor Center at 839 4429 for details.

State outlines required instructional time by grade levels

Sally Rynott of the State Department states kindergarten must total 450 hours or 2.5 hours daily, grades 1–6 require 5.5 hours daily or 990 hours annually, and grades 7–12 require 6 hours daily or 1,080 hours. Field trips and play days count only if they are school-directed under curriculum guidance and the school is open.
