Revised Rio Rancho code of conduct passes first reading

Rio Rancho city councilors unanimously approved a first reading of an ordinance to implement a code of conduct for city employees and officials. The measure follows voters March approval to replace a charter article and requires a July 1 adoption deadline. An ethics official would investigate complaints against officials and recommend substantiation.

Memorial Day Pool Hours Rio Rancho

City offices close Monday in observance of Memorial Day with outdoor pools open noon to 6 pm. Pools listed include Haynes Community Center, Rainbow, and Cabezon Recreation Center. Daily pool fee is 4 dollars, with reduced 3 dollar rate for children aged 2 to 12 and adults 55 and older.

Rio Rancho Memorial Day Parade Steps Off at 10 A.M.

Rio Rancho hosts Memorial Day events with a parade and remembrance ceremony. The parade starts at 10 a.m. and travels east from Country Club Drive along Southern Boulevard to Veterans Monument Park on Pinetree Road, followed by a ceremony for fallen service members. Road closures include Country Club Drive Southern Boulevard to Pinetree Road and Pinetree Road to Oakmount Drive during the 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. window.

Free summer lunch for Rio Rancho youth joins SFSP

Beginning Tuesday through August 12, children ages 1 to 18 may receive free takeout meals at on site lunch service from 11 30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at Star Heights Recreation Center Rainbow Pool North Hills Park Haynes Park and Leon Grande Park. Meals are first come first served with on site consumption only.

Statue memorial honors Rio Rancho fallen officers

About 200 people gathered at Veterans Monument Park in Rio Rancho to dedicate a bronze statue for officers who died in the line of duty. The ceremony marked the anniversary of Officer Gregg Nigel Benner’s fatal shooting during a traffic stop, with other tributes to Special Town Marshal Clemente Salazar and APD Officer Germaine Casey for their service and deaths while on duty.

Man to serve 52 weekends in jail for child abuse

Rio Rancho father Matthew Najar, 32, was sentenced by a Sandoval County judge to 52 weekends in county jail after pleading guilty to reckless child abuse, a third degree felony. He had been indicted on four counts since 2012. authorities said an 11 week old girl suffered a skull fracture plus healing fractures in ribs, leg, and collarbone in 2011.

City officials press federal reimbursement during D C trip

Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull led a delegation to Washington May 12 18 to honor fallen officers at the National Law Enforcement Memorial and meet NM lawmakers about a federal reimbursement. Police Chief Geier Benner's widow Julie and Albuquerque officers attended alongside Gov. Martinez and Mayor Berry. A May 13 Arlington service honored Officer Dan Webster amid a candlelight vigil on the National Mall with 20 000 candles.
