Rams rally for late win in playoff bid

Rio Rancho Rams upset Las Cruces 3-2 as Jared Bock delivered a clutch opposite field double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Rams improved to 20-7. Las Cruces bowed out with the Bulldawgs facing elimination.

RAHS hosts weeklong youth soccer camp June 8 to 12

The RAHS girls soccer program invites boys and girls ages 14 to join a daily 9 am to noon camp June 8 to 12 at the school soccer fields. Registration via the ARHS girls soccer Website or by calling coach Line Balzis at 306-4313.

Cumberland senior Jake Williams earns fourth All-American honors

Jake Williams added four time All-American honors with a first-team All Mid-South nod from NALA east qualifiers. The Rio Rancho native won the 149 pound national title at Missouri Valley College’s Jake Ekster in overtime with a takedown and near fall. He finishes his career as a four time All-American, the last three at Cumberland, and becomes only the second three time All-American in prominent history.

SeVeturn Rancho Rams Basketball Summer Camp Plans

The SeVetun Rancho Rams announce a two session basketball camp for boys and girls entering grades 1-9. Sessions run 9 a.m. to noon from June 1-5 and June 15-19 at RRHS for grades 1-5 and Rio Rancho Middle School for grades 6-9. RRHS Sports Hall of Fame seeks Class of 2015 nominees

The RRHS Sports Hall of Fame seeks nominations for the 2015 class. Nomination forms are on the rrps net RRHS page and in Athletic Coordinator Vince Metzgar's office with a June 1 deadline. Forms stay valid three years, then a new form is required. Inductees named by August 1 and honored at a banquet before the homecoming football game with halftime recognition.

Rio Rancho Youth Football Combine Set for June

The 2015 Rio Rancho Youth Football Combine arrives at Rio Rancho Stadium June 19 and 20 from 8 30 a m to noon. Online signup at Visitramscamps com closes June 15 with 55 registration rising to 65 after that date. Incoming RRHS freshmen pay 25 and team discounts apply. The camp features skills and drills led by the 2014 Class 6A champions.

Local High School Baseball And Softball Week Schedule

This week features 14 baseball games and 55 softball games across city venues. Cleveland High hosts multiple Class A/2A, 4A, 5A, and SA semifinals and quarters across Wednesday to Friday at venues including Lobo Field and Cleveland fields. Rio Rancho and Eagle Ridge host additional 3A and 6A games with potential championship matchups Saturday at Lobo Field. For details see nmact.org.

Local tennis state run ends for two area programs

In Albuquerque at the Jerry Cline Tennis Complex, Cleveland and Rio Rancho exited both singles and doubles as state tournaments progressed. Enrico Barchieisi reached the semifinals before losing to La Cueva’s Eli Echt-Wilson, while Cleveland’s Lane Madrid and Cyrus Madrid fell in doubles quarterfinals. Rio Rancho’s girls team was eliminated in doubles quarterfinals as Hobbs advanced to the final alongside Albuquerque High in the team competition Friday and Saturday.
