Rio Rancho Public Schools are studying a policy to randomly drug test athletes. Athletic Director Bruce Carver says coaches favor testing and board members seek fairness. Superintendent Sue Cleveland says tests are cheaper now and serve as a deterrent, with draft policy due June 8 after prior opposition from the ACLU in 2007.

Rio Rancho Finance Chief Receives National Accounting Award

Michele Finley, manager of the City of Rio Rancho Finance Services and Accounting Division, won the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014 CAFR. The award recognizes the city’s clear financial reporting and the individual chiefly responsible for the CAFR. The GFOA serves about 17,500 government finance professionals across North America.

Sick leave sharing policy proposed by Rio Rancho Schools
