Rio Rancho High Hosts National Student Council Conference

Rio Rancho High School welcomes more than 1 000 middle and high school students and advisers from 43 states plus the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico for the 2015 NASC Conference. The event runs Friday through Sunday with sessions, workshops, a large canned food drive for childhood hunger, and a community service project.

Lucero Trial Begins Amid Rio Rancho Slaying Context

Lucero from PAGE 1 faced allegations of stealing items from a home, and Amanda Jo Lucero shot him according to a news release. Anderson’s killing was Rio Rancho’s first in over a year. The Sandoval County trial before Chief District Judge Louis McDonald started Monday and is planned for about two weeks.

Watershed restoration initiative advances with 15 projects

The program covers 7 700 acres across 15 projects in multiple counties. Six projects have started since October with seven more planned. Otero and Socorro counties completed initial phases. Elks Springs in Sandoval County starts next month with forest thinning to reduce fire risk. Total $210 000 and completion targeted by end of 2016. State Forester Tony Delfin praises progress.

Metro squad eyed to unite county lawmen for grants

Sandoval County agencies plan to apply for about 250000 federal funds to create a crime investigation unit with jurisdiction across Rio Rancho Corrales Bernalillo Bernalillo County reservations and nearby communities including Cuba San Ysidro and Placitas. Local chiefs say the plan could boost cooperation and public safety.

New Rio Rancho Medical Center Opens With Shared Network

The 15 staff includes two surgeons from Rio Rancho and a 10,000 square foot facility with 12 exam rooms an X ray unit and a four station therapy room. Surgeons collaborate with Presbyterian Rust UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center and Lovelace Westside Hospital for patient care. NMDA clinic physicians will rotate to serve west of the river and local residents. The center will treat injuries and muscle pain for all ages and will not have MRI or prosthetics. The facility will maintain its relationship with Presbyterian.

Shelter pets up for adoption in Rio Rancho

Animals at the Rio Rancho Animal Control shelter are available for adoption. Call 891 5075 or visit 344 Northern Blvd. Kennel hours are 10 a.m. to 5 30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Animal control office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. Monday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Shelter hosts Children's Library Day at The Range Café

Haven House in Bernalillo hosts a Children's Library Day from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at The Range Café. Residents can buy therapeutic children's books donated by Samantha J. Sandoval for Osborne Books and More and donate them to Haven House. Books cost about $10 and will be available for Haven House children to take when they leave. The Range Café is located at 925 Camino del Pueblo.
