City considers pay scale plan with merit raises
City officials review a proposed pay plan that links raises to performance with 25 percent steps. Merit increases could start next year if approved. The report compares Rio Rancho salaries with Albuquerque and other New Mexico cities and agencies. Reactions are mixed with some departments pleased and others feeling overlooked. Council members anticipate major adjustments after discrepancies are fixed. A property tax hike remains a possible funding source but is not certain. Final decisions may come after closed sessions and a council vote within weeks, with retroactive salaries from July 1 if approved.
