West Side Boys and Girls Club opens after long effort

The Northwest Albuquerque Kiwanis Club and area volunteers celebrate the opening of the West Side Boys and Girls Club this Monday after a year of dedication. A permanent building remains the next goal, funded by community support across Rio Rancho to Taylor Ranch and nearby areas. Meanwhile, six armed robberies between April 3 and May 15 are linked to the same group, with five at convenience stores. Two suspects entered each store, one displayed a small handgun, and cigarettes, mainly Marlboros, were stolen. The gunman is described as a 20 to 25 year old Hispanic male, 5'6" to 5'8", 140 to 160 pounds, with shaggy collar-length hair, a mustache, and a Spanish accent. The robbers wore face coverings.
