State Police name teen shot by deputy in New Mexico
State Police identified 17 year old Michael Candelaria as the person shot by a Sandoval County deputy in August after he allegedly pointed and fired a high powered rifle at them outside his Algodones home. The shooting occurred on Las Colonias Road near NM 313 as deputies tried to talk with him. Deputy Jacob Hopkins fired hitting Candelaria twice, leaving him in critical condition. The Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing shooting procedures for potential policy deficiencies. Candelaria has since been released from the hospital.
