The Rio Rancho High School concert choir performs at the NMMEA All State Honor Choir Concert at Popejoy Hall on the University of New Mexico campus at 3 45 p m. They present A Choral Fanfare by John Rutter Three Liebeslieder Waltzes by Brahms Seal Lullaby by Whitacre William Tell Overture arranged by Juhlitschliman and Baba Yetu by Christopher Tin.

Santa Ana Star welcomes three comedians to The Stage

The Stage hosts Gabriel Rutledge Mitch Burrow and Goldie Garcia from Olympia and New Mexico respectively. Rutledge won the 2004 Seattle International Comedy Competition and draws on personal life for jokes. Burrow left Boeing to pursue stand-up in Seattle then Los Angeles. Garcia, the Land of Enchantment’s First Lady of Comedy, helped bring stand-up to New Mexico in the late 70s. Doors open 6:36 p.m. show starts 7:30 p.m.

Shane Wallin to Perform at Lounge 54 Santa Ana Star

Santa Ana Star Casino hosts soul singer Shane Wallin at Lounge 54 tonight and Saturday at 9 p.m. Wallin, raised on Otis Redding and other classics, has released two albums. Admission is free but guests must be 21 or older.

Placitas Library hosts Santa Ana Pueblo history talk by Bruce Sanchez

In keeping with its motto Una Placita Para Todos Placitas Community Library invites the public to a free program in the Collin Meeting Room from 2 to 4 p m Bruce Sanchez former Santa Ana governor discusses A Tribal Prospective of the Santa Ana Pueblo tracing history from creation through Spanish and American periods to today. Sanchez a K-8 teacher businessman and tribal historian born and raised on the pueblo shares lifelong knowledge. The library at 453 NM 165 five miles east of I 25. Santa Ana Star Casino welcomes Miss Joy resident DJ at Mandalay.

Placitas hosts Harriet Neal photography exhibit at library

Placitas Community Library showcases Harriet Neal’s West coast and desert imagery in the Collin Meeting Room Gallery through Jan 29. A reception honoring Neal is Jan 9 from 5 to 7 pm with free admission. Neal’s work spans fumaroles, wildflowers, and ancient ruins, reflecting a spiritual view of environment.

UNM Professor to Discuss 1918 Influenza Pandemic

University of New Mexico professor Shannon Withycombe will discuss the 1918 influenza pandemic on Tuesday January 13 at 6 30 p m at Esther Bone Memorial Library. The lecture covers global impact including about 600 000 American deaths and the virus’s role among WW I fatalities. The talk also notes influenza’s effects on New Mexicans and offers a program contact at 891 5012 ext 3128. The American Quilters Society premieres QuiltWeek in Albuquerque January 14 17 at the Albuquerque Convention Center with over 15 000 expected attendees for workshops exhibits and related events.

Cirque du Soleil Varekai Comes to Santa Ana Star Center

Cirque du Soleil brings Varekai to Santa Ana Star Center February 11 to 15 with seven shows. Performances run February 11 to 14 at 7 30 p.m. plus February 14 at 4 p.m. and February 15 at 1 30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets start at 35 dollars and go up to 95 dollars.
