Sandoval County to get eighth district judge
A bill to fund a new district judge for the 13th Judicial District, covering Sandoval Valencia and Cibola counties, passed the Senate unanimously and awaits Gov. Susana Martinez signature. Sponsored by Rep. Henry Saavedra the measure would allocate 229,594 dollars to establish the Sandoval County based judge with an effective date of January 1, 2013, amid rising civil case loads.

Youth sex case goes to trial in Rio Rancho
Jury selection and opening arguments began Tuesday in a Sandoval County case against David Anderson. Indicted last year on one count of criminal sexual penetration and three counts of criminal sexual contact involving two girls aged five and eight in July 2008. Case before District Judge Louis McDonald, expected to conclude this week. Accused allegedly touched the girls in their private areas and staged a naked day at their home. delay occurred after Anderson left New Mexico and authorities tracked him down. Penetration charge is a first degree felony with up to 18 years and $15,000 fine. contact charges are second degree felonies with up to nine years and $12,500 fine.

Rio Rancho officer charged with negligent firearm use
Phillip Farina a 43 year old corrections officer living in Rio Rancho was arrested on negligent use of a firearm after a domestic dispute at his Glen Hills Drive home. He works at the New Mexico Department of Corrections facility in Los Lunas and was placed on paid administrative leave pending investigation.
