Tuesday is election day for district 2 and 4 seats on the Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education. District 2 candidate Ramon Montafio, 40, a former Las Vegas NM school board member, and District 4 candidate Ryan Parra, 24, run unopposed. Polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters in districts 2 and 4 who have not voted early may vote at Lincoln Middle School or Rio Rancho Elementary.
Rio Rancho Chamber hosts a free Friday event at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe to celebrate local business and community. Attendees sit in galleries, meet lawmakers, tour the Capitol, and must register by February 11.
Nurses seeking employment are invited to a nursing job fair on February 25 at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque. The Rio Rancho Governing Body approved the first reading of a DWI vehicle seizure ordinance with a tie breaking vote by Mayor Gregg Hull. The plan would civilly boot or seize vehicles of repeat offenders or those driving with revoked licenses, with a one month boot option for a second DWI arrest, and requires a second reading and funding to take effect.
The Rio Rancho Governing Body failed to adopt mid-year budget changes as a 3-2 vote left the old budget in place. Councilors Wilkins and Scott opposed. Clayton Everett Robinson supported. Smith absent. Mayor Hull did not vote. staff will bring adjustments individually or proceed with the existing budget.
Corrales Elementary hosted anti-bullying talks by Gary Hedeman and his 1800 pound Charolais bull Bill. Hedeman, a former bullfighter, debunked the red color myth and read Bill is No Bully, a Western spin on Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, to students ahead of Tuff Hedeman’s Championship Bull Riding show at Santa Ana Star Center.
Tequila Rose, a guest at Enchantment Pet Resort, plays with a football as staff note dog voting picks based on which bowl a dog retrieves a treat from first. The resort reports dogs have been correct three of four years. This Friday afternoon the dogs forecast Seattle Schnauzers over New England Papilions.
Sandoval County detectives investigate a suspected homicide after Matthew Senter, 30, was found dead near his vehicle at 400 10th Street near Southern Boulevard just outside Rio Rancho. Deputies were called around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. investigators say he argued with his girlfriend the night before and left the residence. Police and crime scene units assist.
