Volunteer who shaped Eagle Ridge AVID program
Gustin, long time AVID coordinator at Eagle Ridge Middle School in Rio Rancho, started as a volunteer after leaving a beer and Oprah routine. He built a nationally recognized AVID program, funded trainings himself, and earned district Volunteer of the Year for 2013 14. He later stepped back to part time and took substitute work at a private school while planning to travel more and leave a portion of his estate to the school.

Betty-Jane Shaffer age 96 died December 16 2015 in Rio Rancho New Mexico. Born August 13 1919 in Canton Ohio she lived there until moving with her husband John to Rio Rancho in 1983. A homemaker she supported porcelain painting clubs and churches and is survived by daughter Glenda and son Jack plus multiple grandchildren great grandchildren and siblings. Private services planned at Vista Verde Memorial Park.
