Sixth graders learn self defense at LMS pilot program

Rio Rancho sixth graders completed a two week taekwondo pilot at Los Lunas Middle School led by Master Jim Ademuyiwa. The program focused on kicking with character and taught verbal and physical self defense, bullying response strategies, and core values.

Parra seeks Rio Rancho District 4 council seat

Ryan Parra, a 24 year old Rio Rancho Public Schools board member, announced his candidacy for District 4 on the Rio Rancho City Council. Parra, born in Florida and a UNM political science student, aims to boost youth job opportunities and citywide events while keeping his ARPS seat if not elected. Incumbent Mark Scott is not seeking re election, and Marlene Feuer has also announced for the seat.

New Hospital Tower Opens With First Patient Move

Rio Rancho resident Mary Atencio became the first patient treated in the hospital’s new 260-square foot tower room after consenting to move. The $86 million expansion, started in 2014, will bring staff from 810 to about 935 as beds fill by year end.
