Union organizers say many Rio Rancho Public Schools employees at seven sites are signing cards requesting collective bargaining representation. If enough cards are signed, they will be presented to the district as a request for recognition of the Rio Rancho School Employees Union.

Rio Rancho City Council unanimously approved blighting nearly 300 acres west of Vista Hills to enable city acquisition and resale to developers. Combined with adjacent 160 acres, the site would host a cultural center, a new high school, outdoor arts venue, and a stadium. AMREP Southwest holds about 44 percent of Unit 13. the rest belongs to 242 owners. The move authorizes a Metropolitan Redevelopment Plan.
