Parks and Recreation officials celebrate Rio Rancho's two new pools at Haynes and Rainbow parks. Aquatics director Glenn Steimling says revenues and attendance have doubled at both pools, with two extra weeks of operation this season. Labor Day marks the last day of activities before closing until Memorial Day.

The Rio Rancho Golf and Country Club was chosen as host for the U S Corporate Tennis Association Corporate Tennis Cup in Rio Rancho and surrounding areas. Local company teams from Fortune 500 and smaller firms begin play in September with city championships leading to the national championships April 26 30 1995 at John Newcombe Tennis Ranch Texas.

Mosley to Compete in Paris International Gymnastics Meet
Rio Rancho gymnast Erin Mosley has accepted an invitation to compete at the Blanc Mesnil International Gymnastics Tournament in Paris this November. She trains at Sun Spirit Gymnastics School and will represent New Mexico with Albuquerque gymnasts, joined by UNM Lab gymnasts in the men’s division. The six could be the only US gymnasts at a meet featuring private schools from 16 countries, with Mosley a Level Ten state champion and Region Three National champ runner.

Local athletes earn college scholarships and fall injuries update
Okim Jennings of Rio Rancho earned a basketball scholarship to North Alabama University after a standout career at Cibola High School. Brent Freeze, former Cibola golfer, qualified for the 1994 U S Amateur and boasts recent wins. John Roskos, Cibola baseball great, will miss the last week of the Class A season with a blood clot dissolved, and will join Marlins prospects in Instructional League starting Sept. 16.
