Intuit selects Rio Rancho for new support facility
Intuit Inc will build a 74000 square foot technical support center in Rio Rancho's River's Edge Business Tech Center. Construction is underway and operations are planned to begin December 15, 1994 with about 300 employees, rising to 800 within two years. Local hires will account for 75 to 90 percent of new positions. The city offers up to 12 million in Industrial Revenue Bonds as incentive.

NBA star Michael Cooper arrested after threat at home
Michael Cooper, former UNM and Los Angeles Lakers player, was arrested last Wednesday night at his Corrales residence after allegedly threatening his wife. Sandoval County Commissioner Joe Lang was present but did not comment. Police reported Cooper shouted obscenities and told his wife to answer the door as Corrales Officer Bruce Ellis arrived around 11 40 p.m. Wanda Joy Cooper was crying as she approached the door.

Rio Rancho City Council approved the Unit 16 West Redevelopment Plan for about 830 acres south of Southern Boulevard and west of Golf Course Road. The plan allows city purchase of privately owned land to re sell to large developers, with eminent domain as a last resort if negotiations fail.

Rio Rancho officials debate the Unit 16 West Redevelopment Plan to realign Black's Arroyo between Southern Boulevard and MLK Elementary. If approved earlier, taxpayers might have saved over $50,000 by eliminating part of a flood control project. SSCAFCA has already allocated $50,000 for Section 14, which involves no erosion work, just culvert work at Southern and 27th Street and a switchback realignment.
