Klein Shoots His Age On Golf Courses Across a Lifetime

Johnny Klein, 72, has shot his age about 11 times since turning 69, most recently a 68 in June and a 70 on July 1 at Club Rio Rancho. A Los Alamos native, he left golf briefly for the Air Force, worked at Los Alamos Labs, and later settled on a Rio Rancho course with his wife Moe, who died at 73. His stepson Donnie Torres calls him competitive and deliberate on the tee while Klein loves cruises and family ties to golf.

Lobos Earn AVCA Team Academic Award Spot

The University of New Mexico Lobo volleyball team earned a place on the AVCA Team Academic Award list for 2014-15. Coached by staff, UNM posted a 3.32 cumulative GPA for 2014-15 among 146 Division I schools. The Lobos start 2015 on the road in Muncie facing Belmont Albany Ball State, with first home match September 4 against Santa Clara.

Run for Vision 5K at Rust Medical Center Aug 15

The annual Run for Vision at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center takes place Saturday Aug 15. Registration opens at 7 a.m. in the medical center parking lot with a 5K run and a 5K walk starting shortly after. Fees are 40 for individuals, 30 per team of four with coupon 4ORMORE, and 10 for children 12 and under. Contact event director Paula Strosnider for details.
