Sandoval County OKs $5.25M general obligation bonds

The Sandoval County Commission authorized sale of 5.25 million in general obligation bonds by three votes with two members absent. Proceeds include 3.25 million for 14 libraries and 2 million for emergency communications equipment. Voters previously approved the bond issue in November. The meeting also approved budget adjustments, state grant applications, two land donations, disposal of obsolete equipment, and resolutions naming April as National Senior Volunteer Month and Alcohol Awareness Month. Commissioner Glenn Walters won approval to move the Aug. 5 meeting to July 31 in Cuba to boost local attendance.

Everyone Matters Day celebrated by Boys and Girls Club in Rio Rancho

More than 60 participants including Mayor Gregg Hull and members of the Boys and Girls Club of Central New Mexico held up I am signs to mark the first Everyone Matters Day. The event promoted dignity and respect for all, with Hull stressing celebration of differences and listening to all ideas. Separately, Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry was recognized earlier and Sen. Tom Udall announced academy nomination sessions with an April 23 info event at Cibola High School and an Oct. 9 application deadline.

City Seeks Applicants for Ethics Committee Under New Rules

Governing body members push for clearer ethics code. A three or fewer member panel could be formed with city staff and public members and may meet without public access if no quorum exists. Applicants asked to submit by 5 p.m. Tuesday via the city website or office, or call 891-5002. Wednesday agenda also includes board appointments, a Community Development Block Grant plan, a second reading on in person reporting, and elections in two improvement districts.

Rising Stars art show at Rio Rancho City Hall students

The Rio Rancho Public Schools Rising Stars art show runs April 9 to 28 on the City Hall third floor featuring seniors from Rio Rancho high schools. Free reception and awards on April 17 with guest judges and sponsor organizations.
