All Richmond College students planning to graduate in February June or August 1956 must file applications with B C registrar Miss Helen Mansell by September 24 Saturday. Forms may be secured from the registrar's office.
Garian Bob Garian a June graduate of Richmond College in political science wins a four year scholarship worth 1750 from Williams School of Law. Also honored are William Daughtrey Jr and first year recipients Junie Bradshaw Kyung Kuk Kwun with notable scholarly affiliations and recommendations.
The Paul Timothy Project guides incoming ministerial students at Richmond College with a Paul Timothy pairing. Frank Schwall chairs the program and aims to foster mental spiritual and social growth. Orientation Week featured a panel discussion by association officers and activities to welcome newcomers. Bill Tuck, a junior transfer, praised the project and its role in connecting students to the Association.
The University of Richmond Music Department welcomes Dr. Frederick Neumann from Czechoslovakia and Dr. Roy Jesson from London. Neumann brings war service in the US Army counterintelligence corps and a career in music education and string performance. Jesson, a Royal College of Music graduate from London, has a background in organ work at Christ Church Cathedral and a composer with prize winning works.
Richmond College announces the June Dean's List of Distinguished Students with 83 pupils meeting the 35 quality credits rule and at most one C grade. Eight students achieved a perfect record. many more named include D. M. Armbrister, R. L. Baldridge, H. J. Bardin, and numerous others across the roster.
Lt. Colonel GC. W. Coghill announces Roland Evans as cadet major on September 19. Evans, a Distinguished Military Student, joins Scabbard and Blade and serves as Business School senator and Battalion Commander. Kenneth F. Matthews named Cadet Captain. list covers First and Second Lieutenants and Master Sergeants with multiple company commanders.
Jim Bush, debate team captain, welcomed fourteen new members to the first meeting held Friday September 16 at 3 p.m. in the Student Activities Building lounge. Returning varsity debaters and new coach Dr. Bert Bradley attended.
Students of the Men’s Division and Westhampton College who missed chest x rays on campus may now have them at 108 W. Cary St. The Public Health Clinic offers free x rays on Fridays from 9 to 12 and 1 to 4. All students must take the examination.
Dr Bradley pushed student oral contest with literary societies fraternities clubs and independents as participants. Qualifications exclude holders of B A or B S degrees and any prior intercollegiate debate. Forensic Council approved funding a cup for the winner to carry to next year’s victor Bush and urged inclusion and training for all new members.
The University Players present Emlyn Williams mystery at the Quonset Hut Theatre October 19 20 and 21 at 8 15 p m The plot centers on a dinner party hosted by Sir Charles Jasper with two million pounds at stake if he is alive at 11 00 p m The cast includes Miss Groze Nancy Williams Cavendish Jack Bolling Beatrice Jasper Maurice Mullins and Donald Burkat Professor Alton Williams directs assisted by Gene Hanley
All Westhampton reporters for the Collegian are asked to meet with W.C. Editor Carolyn Baker at 1:00 o'clock on Monday in the Keller Hall study hall. She will review Collegian writing styles and copy submission procedures.
McNeill Law Society selects Harold V. Kelly of Portsmouth as Chancellor succeeding William J. Williams who graduated last summer. John W. Edmonds of Accomac becomes Vice-Chancellor and F Ward Harkrader of Richmond is named Chancellor of the Exchequer. The society, founded 1933, honors Dr. Walter Scott McNeill and promotes legal research with a 20 member limit based on scholastic achievement.
The Athletic Association hosted a welcome picnic September 15 by the lake for the Westhampton Class of 1959 and transfer students. Helen Critenden explained the AA, awards were shown, coaches and cheerleaders were introduced, and participation in the athletic program was urged.
