One man Spider powerhouse Charlie Suttenfield is ruled ineligible for college football. The decision darkens campus as Suttenfield had recently been elected team co captain and helped spark the season opening win over Randolph Macon.
A barn dance at Westhampton College Keller Hall on October 1 features a four piece string band and a figure caller. The event sponsored by the Y's of Richmond and Westhampton College will be informal with rural decorations and a tentative admission of 5 dollars per person.
Dean Hamilton announced freshmen girls may spend nights off campus starting October 13. Westhampton rule bars off campus nights for freshmen during the first four weeks of the semester.
The three editors in chief reveal the 1949 50 staffs for Web University yearbook Messenger and campus publications. Appointments include Lou Madison Richmond College editor and Tom Webb art editor, with multiple editors named for features, sports, classes, writeups, and circulation. Don Wilson assigns the Messenger staff and reworks the magazine format for the year.
All student organizations are urged to send representatives to a September 27 meeting in Room RK Administration building. The session plans entries for a parade as a featured highlight of the University Homecoming program on October 29.

Editor Everette Weakly says the 1949 50 Student Directory will go to press Monday and go on sale October 8. The YMCA sponsored publication lists students from Richmond Westhampton College and the School of Business Administration with addresses and phone numbers plus faculty contacts. The book features a complete contents, campus map, page titles by student classification, and a blank end page for extra numbers at seventy five cents per copy.
The 118th convocation began with senior processional from the Administration Building to Cannon Memorial Chapel. Dr John Newton Thomas of Union Theological Seminary spoke on A Good Appetite urging cultural appreciation as a university aim. The University Religious Activities Council will host its annual Fall Retreat tomorrow at Dr. Broaddus Massey's Chesterfield County home. The group departs college at 4:00 p.m. and returns the same night with cabinet members of the YMGA and YWCA and campus religious organizations in attendance. Dr. Orthell Hand and Miss Mary Elizabeth Wrenn will also attend, with Jim Payne and Mary Lee Rankin presiding.
Richmond College Student Government faced a budget crisis at its first meeting as leaders debated how to fund campus publications and facilities. A plan to require open ledgers and dual books was proposed, with letters to the university treasurer and next steps set for a special Tuesday session.
Miss Mary Elizabeth Wrenn has been named Director of Religious Activities for Westhampton College. She previously directed Religious Education at Northside Baptist Church of Richmond for two years and has held roles as organist, choir director, and minister's assistant in North Carolina and Virginia.
