Richmond College marks Orientation Week closure with an interfraternity open house for 350 freshmen and 50 transfer students. New students arrived Sunday for dorm housing and an outdoor vesper service, followed by campus org briefings and class registration through midweek.

SBA Junior Dies in Crash Near Powhatan
Thomas Chapman Taliaferro, a June tor in the School of Business Administration, was killed in a Tuesday night collision with a Greyhound bus at the U S Route 60 and Virginia Route 726 intersection near Powhatan. He died on arrival at a Richmond hospital after the 12 25 a m crash in light rain. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Robert Ryland Taliaferro of Tappahannock and had been a student leader and athlete at Tappahannock High School and the University. A funeral service was held at Mark's Funeral Home in Tappahannock.

Changes to Westhampton social rules expand student freedoms
Westhampton College extends dating rights for juniors to all week nights and relaxes sign out rules. Upperclass privileges include overnight stays at approved homes and with roommates, and dating within a 15 mile radius of campus now includes Randolph Macon. Senior privileges grant unlimited class cuts for grades of B or higher, while drinking policy remains under university administration rather to Honor Council.

Million Dollar Arts Center Under Construction at University Campus
Ground broken on the million dollar Fine Arts Center at Westhampton College after a June board authorization. The Gothic three story building to house art drama music and speech will be built by Bass Construction and designed by Carneal and Johnson. It features a 746 seat theater soundproof rehearsal rooms and an art gallery as part of the new complex near Keller Hall.
