Eugene K. Ritter of Bowling Green Virginia was elected president of the freshman class at a spirited Monday chapel hall meeting. The election followed a heated campus campaign with town and campus factions vying for control and tickets nominated by both sides.
Regular Mu Sigma Rho Literary Society meeting called to order by President Chariton at 7 pm Monday. W R Vaiden led prayer before a declamation by N B Farris who read a poem titled Rather Ryan. A debate followed on deporting all Negroes to island possessions as a race issue solution with the affirmative supported by eight members.
Web begins picture taking for the 1925 1926 year with drive to gather material promptly for the University annual. Students urged to visit Root Studio Room 901 Grace Street Bank at Third and Grace Streets to have photos taken and to complete honor schedule cards with Francis N. Taylor or S. Warren Chappell.
Sigma Upsilon, honor group at the University of Richmond, announces a meeting this week. Three members Jud son Hivans J Mark Lutz and Leslie Jones have returned this session and anticipate a creditable year. The fraternity has earned respect for its campus accomplishments.
At a Bluefield Club meeting a social committee of Culley James J K Johnson and J Litz was formed to arrange an indoor party during Thanksgiving week. The club has twenty two students from Westhampton College Richmond College and the T C Williams School of Law, and aims to be a leading University organization.
Richmond College senior class plans a neater 1925-1926 annual with two photographs per member and no individual write ups. The move aligns with uniformity trends at other local schools and aims to reduce seniors’ costs.
Dr F W Boatwright was given approval by the Maryland Baptist General Association to canvass the state for funds for a new science building and the proposed Maryland Building. The group included the University in their 1926 budget. Boatwright met with Richmond College alumni in New York to garner support, including Jesse Reed Taylor of the American Tobacco Company.
Westhampton College seniors held a solemn ceremony at the Red Cross building. The stage featured a golden W with 26 at base and a tower replica of the class ring while seniors in caps and gowns sang their proclamation song and heard remarks from W Eugenia Edmondson and Mary Louise McGlothlin.
The Richmond Collegian reports the first staff meeting of the college paper to be held Monday during chapel period in the local paper offices. All staff members including cub reporters and column writers are urged to attend as several important matters concerning the paper will be discussed.
The Spider Band led by Chester Swanson traveled from Richmond by bus to the Chesterfield Fair. Officials invited them again after last year's success, with two daily concerts. Thursday afternoon concert moved to the courthouse because of rain, with C Y McDaniels leading community singing.
A P Newcomb a junior at Richmond College was elected from a large field in the senator at large race on October 20. The contest drew many campus politicians and the result was not known until ballots were counted.
Miss Gertrude Beggs was elected adviser by the freshman class at a recent class meeting. The gathering also elected Mary Miller as hockey captain and Doris Turnbull as tennis manager.
The Y M C A building is used as a lecture room and chapel to be converted into a laboratory. Administrators faced space issues but have arranged lecture spaces that run smoothly. Large science classes now meet in the converted facility while further laboratory space is sought.
The Philologian Literary Society will hear Prof. H. B. Handy of Richmond College speak on Platform Technique next Monday. He will cover voice pitch posture and other public speaking points. T. E. West is slated to give an oration and a declamation as part of the program.
The three campus student bodies united for a Friday October 23 reception at Roger Millhiser Memorial Gymnasium. Hosts greeted guests with a Halloween themed setup and a name tag system guiding introductions, aided by presidents and Dean Prince to facilitate interactions.
