Alumni Plan Gift of Twenty Fellowships at Richmond

Richmond chapter of the University of Richmond Alumni Association discussed arranging twenty perpetual fellowships at a meeting held October 29 at the University Club. A committee will report before the Thanksgiving game and the fund is expected to reach about 6 000 dollars in principal, with annual interest aiding Virginia men of calibre to attend Richmond College. Dave I Miller is currently benefiting from one of the two existing fellowships.

Walden appoints vigilance committee at Richmond College

Walden and the Richmond College student government announced the appointment of Charles Dillon C J Hobgood W B Phillips as members of the vigilance committee on October 27. The first meeting was held November 4 at 10 o'clock with plans for the future and past freshmen infractions discussed. The committee has long served to control freshmen and rats are warned to appear when reported.

Westhampton College collects student fees and fines

The student government budget fees were collected Monday to Wednesday at Westhampton College. A small fine was imposed on late payers to urge promptness. The required fee covers class dues athletic association and student government association dues and the yearly publication costs.

Debating Team Prepares for Lynchburg Clash

Formal preliminary debate in preparation for the annual dual contest with Lynchburg College will be held Tuesday at 3 PM in the Richmond College auditorium. Debaters will present their main speeches followed by rebuttals with a faculty critic overseeing the proceedings.

Conference Reports at Y M C A Meetings Last Night

Three reports on Y M C A conferences were given. Dr A C Barnette described a successful national Y M C A meeting in Washington. G Cary White spoke on the All-Student War Court conference in Lynchburg and the Permanent Court of International Justice debated in Charlottesville.

Country Life Group Meets in Richmond

University of Richmond students attended the annual meeting of the American Country Life Association in Richmond last Friday morning. The group, formed seven years ago in Baltimore, aims to promote better living and farming conditions nationwide with Rolvix Harlan of the University contributing as an organizer.

University Players to Stage Grumpy as Fall Production

University Players announce Grumpy as their fall play to be presented at the Richmond Women's Club auditorium on November 20. Cast includes James Carver as the title role with Hiter Atkins, Charles McDaniel, Robert Edwards, Elinor Physioe, and Saxon Rowe in key parts as rehearsal progress continues.

Richmond College Maintains Chapel Services Despite Lab Expansion

Chapel services at Richmond College will continue in the chapel building as before. Dean Prince states the right wing will house a chemistry laboratory, but seating is being rearranged to use the left portion and restricted hall space to accommodate nearly the same number of worshippers as prior to the auditorium division.

Omicron Delta Kappa Plans Cheer Improvement at Richmond Games

Epsilon Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa met at the William Byrd Hotel last Friday to discuss boosting campus spirit. The group criticized upperclassmen forcing freshmen to cheer and proposed plans to improve student cheer at University of Richmond games.

Senior Classes Plan Fall Social at Richmond and Westhampton

At Richmond College chapel meeting last Monday senior class president Roland Galvin asked Taylor Frazier to report on the class entertainment committee. The committee favors a theater party and a joint senior class event for Westhampton and Richmond Colleges. Details are left to the committee. S. Warren Chappell says yearbook photos of upperclassmen are ready for the yearbook.

Rules for Freshmen Given by Sophomores

Lax observance of freshman rules at Richmond College prompted a meeting in the chapel at 11 AM Monday. The class president noted many freshmen failed to wear rat caps and green ribbons and attendance at games and rallies was poor. Only about a quarter of the class attended, mainly because the event was not announced until Monday morning.

Mrs. James Speaks On Service At Sunday Vespers

Mrs. W. C. James was the Sunday night vespers speaker. She quoted Tennyson and drew a contrast between a calm funeral face and the ornate effigy of Queen Elizabeth, using the poem’s sunset and call imagery to discuss aging and immortality before turning to a note for young listeners.

Richmond minister speaks to University group

Dr. John L. Slaughter of Leigh Street Baptist Church addressed the Ministerial Association of the University of Richmond meeting Tuesday night in Room J at 7 15. Delegates were appointed to the Students' Ministerial Movement of Virginia to meet on campus November 13 14 15.
