A fire early Wednesday destroyed the University of Richmond Science Hall, with $50,000 in property lost. The blaze began in the advanced chemical laboratory, spreading through the second story as stored inflammable chemicals exploded and sent showers of sparks skyward.
Rev G Tyler Terrell pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church of Richmond spoke at the Ministers Association meeting in the Administrative building. An alumnus of the University of Richmond he noted many members and freshman students present as plans form for a state ministerial movement meeting November 13 15 on the University of Richmond campus expected to be the largest gathering of ministerial students yet.
New members of the Westhampton Debating Club were formally admitted to the local forensic society Monday night. President Mary Louise McGlothlin outlined the year's work and welcomed the new members before the meeting adjourned to the faculty sitting room for tea and cakes.
Westhampton seniors plan to bring Tony Sarg's Marionettes to the University this fall. The company arrives Nov. 7 for two shows 4 30 pm and 8 30 pm. Afternoon show targets children with Hansel and Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood. evening feature Treasure Island. Publicity committee targets Richmond area.
The Sigma Theta Phi honorary commerce fraternity will meet Wednesday in the faculty room to select prospective members and discuss plans to cooperate with the faculty and business department. The group promotes service, scholarship, character, and ethics in business. six members return this year including C. W. Davis.
The Art Club and Writers' Club hosted a tea in the drawing room last Friday. James Carver, a Richmond College student, gave an engaging talk about his summer with a stock company featuring Mitzi the Hungarian comedienne.
The combined student bodies of three colleges form the University of Richmond will host the annual student government reception at 7 30 P M in the Roger Millhiser Memorial Gymnasium. Seven hundred attendees are expected with a fully scheduled program all evening in a Halloween themed event.
The Omnicon Delta Kappa at the University of Richmond will hold elections before Christmas. The local chapter president S Warren Chappell says membership is for men showing exceptional participation and ability across college life.
Westhampton College YWCA organized a Richmond sightseeing tour for students companioned by guides. They visited Battle Abbey Hollywood Capitol Square St Johns Church and other city sites while learning local history. Proceeds support the Blue Ridge Fund.
At a Student Government meeting Warren Chappell editor of the Spider collected class rating and campus activity data from students for the 1926 Web. Upperclassmen who have not filed a card are urged to do so. Photographer contracts for the yearbook will be drawn up within a week and picture arrangements will be announced soon.
N. R. Green W. F. Cuthriell and J. C. Swanson will represent the University of Richmond at two Y M C A events in Charlottesville Virginia from October 30 to November 2. One is the annual Y M C A conference for college organizations and Virginia delegates. the other is a Baptist student conference for Virginia and Maryland students. Cuthrell will address the Y M C A gathering. Reports will be given at the next Y meeting in the Red Cross building.
The Westhampton College freshman class elected two officers this past week Lucia Cotes of Newman Georgia was chosen secretary and Helen Moon of Richmond treasurer The remaining officers are Elizabeth Hale chairwoman Bessie Powell vice president Louise Hardaway hockey manager and Virginia Porter cheer leader
At Mayo Island Park this afternoon the University of Richmond football team meets Gus Welchs Yellow Jackets from Ashland at 3 30. Local odds favor Richmond though Coach Dobson aims for a decisive victory with his eleven. The game affects the state collegiate title race and Richmond could gain standing with a Lynchburg upset win.
Dr D R Anderson president of Randolph Macon Woman's College addressed vespers last Sunday night. He discussed how a man's intelligence and morals are shown by the questions he asks and whom he asks them. He cited Jesus Christ as the final authority on life and noted Anderson's 11 years on the Richmond College faculty before joining Randolph Macon.
A large district bulletin board for Westhampton College notices has been placed in the cloister by the dining room to ease public announcements read by students. The board is expected to become a daily reading hub for activity information and campus updates.
