Students from William and Mary Randolph Macon and Richmond College exchange notes about Hrapden Silley in a brief college collaboration item. The fragment hints at interschool links and individuals in Richmond.
Jack Knight tossed a near no hitter as the Spiders erased a three game skid by beating Hampden Ridney in a close contest. Richmond College showed fight behind Captain Northern as Pollard Love and Patterson boosted their offense with key hits, and Knight’s mound work kept the visitors to one scratchy single.
Randolph Macon failed to overcome the Yellow Jackets who won 7 to 1 in Ashland after 6 P M on a slick infield. Skaggs pitched well for the Red and Blue through two innings before a misplay led to three hits in the third, while Davis held the Spiders to several timely hits. Jones stole home for the Spiders in the first inning.
The juniors defeated the seniors 28 to 9 in a second contest after an earlier 10 to 8 score. Wright drew most cheers for her air tosses and steady hands as Bragg and Johnson stood out for their scoring and defense under tough practice conditions.
Richmond and Westhampton Colleges held their freshman rat banquet at a Richmond hotel marking the long standing custom since 1919. The event welcomed rat guests from both colleges now with a revised tone away from past sophomore hazing. Speakers from former banquets noted the new spirit while a three piece orchestra provided music and Mr. Warner acted as toastmaster introducing Dr. Boat and other speakers.
Dr Bryan announced tentative commencement plans for the Richmond and Serthampton branches of Greater Richmond College. Final exams run June 6 and 18 with the closing program starting that night. A senior play is scheduled for Friday June 18 at 8 P M at West.
Randolph-Macon College defeated Richmond College in a dual intercollegiate debate held Monday evening in adverse weather. The affirmative from Randolph-Macon argued that the United States should not commit Armenia to the League of Nations without mandate, winning two to one over Richmond College.
Dr. Anderson rejoined the Richmond fellowship after a month away aiding Uncle Sam. His absence was felt at Old Richmond College where he served as teacher friend and chapel lecturer. The community congratulates him on his Liberty bond efforts and successful service.
Dr. McNeil who served briefly as professor of history in the chair of Dr. Anderson bade his class a fond farewell during the last two days of last week. He came from the law school and presented history in an enlightening and searching way. His dates mastery and foreign knowledge made lectures engaging. His legal approach to past and present questions stood out as well. We wish him well in his chosen field and thank him for his interest in our classes.
