Dr. F. P. Gaines will deliver the commencement address as Richmond hosts the University scholarship quiz final tonight at 10. Finalists are Miss Honor Patterson of Thomas Jefferson High in Richmond, Nathan A. Safian of Woodrow Wilson High in Portsmouth, and Miss Leta May Tucker of Thomas Dale High in Chester. The $4200 prize pool includes one free freshman year at Richmond College or Westhampton.

Dr. Hand Resigns to Lead Calvary Baptist Church
Dr. G. Othell Hand, professor of religious education at the University, resigns his teaching post effective June 1 to devote full time to pastoral work at Calvary Baptist Church. He has served as interim pastor since October 1950 and directed campus religious activities. The Calvary congregation voted unanimously to appoint him as full time pastor three weeks ago.

Five To Receive Honor Degrees At Richmond Commencement
Five individuals including Governor John Stewart Battle will receive honorary doctor of law degrees from the University of Richmond at June commencement. Also honored are Dr. Morgan L. Combs president of Mary Washington College and Luther H. Jenkins Jr. Battle, a Virginia legislator and former governor, is noted for service and leadership in Virginia. A two mile wheelbarrow marathon on campus Saturday afternoon pitted Phi Alpha against Phi Delta Theta. Phi Delta Theta won by a few hundred feet. Phi Delt riders included Dick Moseley and Carolyn Carter, while Phi Alpha fielded Marvin Collin and Margie Belgins as passengers. A trophy was awarded by Hank Lieb to the winning team.

UR to Award 300 Degrees at June Commencement

Westhampton seniors have a full schedule through June 9 with sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, teas for individuals, and alumnae events. The Richmond Alumnae tea was held at Mrs. John Tyree's home. A College Government Luncheon at the Commonwealth Club is set for June 6 at 1:00 p.m. The Alumnae Hour and Senior Luncheon follow on June 7, with a Baccalaureate Service and Cloisters singing planned for June 8.

The eight Virginia colleges poll shows Dwight D. Eisenhower leading with 1690 votes to 776 for Estes Kefauver, across institutions including the University of Virginia and University of Richmond. Republicans outpolled Democrats 2574 to 1217, with Taft, Russell, Stassen, Warren and others also listed.
