Alumni Day at UR Campus Draws Old and New Faces
Alumni return to the University of Richmond for Alumni Day on May 16. Events begin with 8:30 am registration at Millhiser Field, open classes all day, a noon dormitory infirmary dedication honoring Elizabeth Robins, and a 1 pm ceremony in Millhiser Gym. The Spider baseball team hosts William and Mary in the afternoon with Carter E. Talman highlighted at lunch, followed by a joint Westhampton alumnae dinner and a music hour.

Robert F. Cavedo a junior from Arlington Virginia was elected president of the Samuel Chiles Mitchell Literary Society for 1959 1960 session. Fredrick Sale Jr and Robert L Perkins were elected vice president and secretary treasurer Terry Yarborough was named Forensics Council representative and Tommy Atkins joined the House of Representatives. May Day Festivities End Smoothly at Westhampton
The May Day celebration at Westhampton featured a mostly faultless parade and coronation. One lantern burned, tumblers minorly bruised, and the fireworks supervisor had a hiccup with a firecracker. A grand banquet devoured by chickens ended the day, with Sylvia Hadock presiding as queen at the Southern Ball.

A Maynard Ferguson jazz concert and semi formal dance head this weekend at Millhiser Gymnasium. The 12 piece band, cited by Down Beat, performs 8 to 5 with the dance 9 to midnight tomorrow night. The Richmond Symphony presents a Sunday afternoon pops concert at the Arena on May 17 directed by Edgar Schenkman. The program opens with Wagner and includes Strauss Roses from the South, Dance of The Hours, 1812 Overture, My Fair Lady, The Typewriter, Night on Mount Moun tain, and Ravel Bolero. Tickets are Thalhimers priced $2 reserved and $1.25 unreserved adults with 65 cents for children.

Health Institute Aids in Financing Chemistry Project
For four years the chemistry department and graduate students have worked with National Institute of Mental Health grants on tetra zolium salts used to time chemical reactions by color change. Shelby Broughton Olin Sibes and Larry Hansrote led last summer with initial cancer research aims later disproven. work continues with Leo Crozier A Rossman this spring and Sibes and Hansrote returning in summer. Compounds are sent to Bethesda Maryland for testing by George Z Williams at the National Institute of Clinical Pathology. Grants total two awards of 5200 dollars each.
