Westhampton May Day Festivities Begin With Student Elections

Westhampton students observe May Day with a Dean declared holiday. booths opened at 2:00 pm feature 15 campus groups including College Government and Athletic Association. Pamela Burnside will be crowned queen with Maid of Honor Jackie Jeter. a 20 girl May Pole dance and a 4:30 tea for prospective freshmen are planned.

Richmond and Westhampton Delegates Attend State IRC Conference

The Richmond College and Westhampton College chapters of the International Relations Club sent four delegates to a State ERC conference at Randolph-Macon College to draft a constitution. Westhampton delegates are Felicity McDonald and Peggie Bake man. Richmond College delegates are Bill Gresham and Bill Bayer.

Charter Requested for Richmond College History Honor Society

Reid Spencer announces that the Richmond College History Honor Society has petitioned Phi Alpha Theta for a charter to install a local chapter. The group reorganized March 23 and submitted the petition April 1, awaiting a decision. the prior local group was Rho Eta Sigma.

Fergusson wins top honor in first University Salon exhibit

John R. Fergusson captured the best prize with Canal Venice, the sole entry by him among 21 works in the University of Richmond Photographic Salon. His Italian canal scene was shot last summer on a return trip. Second place went to George Newman for Coming Through, with Palace earning an honorable mention.

Morris Cather Elected New IRA President at Richmond College

Morris Cather a Richmond College junior was elected president of the university chapter of Tau Kappa Alpha the national recognition fraternity in forensics at the organization's meeting last Thursday. Neil Cline was elected secretary treasurer and Professor Lloyd Pierce was named faculty adviser Charles Harvey chosen as representative to the Forensic Council pending official confirmation under the new council constitution.

Final Dances Set at Richmond College June 3 and 4

The Richmond College Interfraternity Dance Committee confirms two final dances to cap Graduation Week. The first on Thursday June 3 from 9 pm to 1 am will be formal, followed by an informal dance Friday June 4 at the same hours in Millhiser Gym. Ticket prices vary by subscription status and night.

City Maintains College Roads With Gravel and Oil

Richmond Public Works began routine repair work on Towana and Roselawn Roads near the university. The two week project will tear up the road and lay gravel and oil with holes filled. A detour via Towina Old Mill and Three Chopt was used though Old Mill is narrow with sharp turns for buses.

Semi Classical Band Concert At Greek Theatre May 15

University band schedules a semi classical concert under Mark Troxell for 8 pm May 15 in Luther Jenkins Greek Theatre. Tickets sold via College Shop Playhouse and chapel assemblies with fraternities aiding sales and alumni outreach aims to raise about 1000 dollars for new uniforms.

Students vote as Richmond College redefines government

On Richmond College campus the Student Party won 10 of 18 offices in class elections held Tuesday in the Playhouse. The revised Student Government Constitution passed 641 to 22. Basil Morrissett led the All Campus slate in the Senior Class with 144 to 99 for Sattler Anderson, while Thomas Billingsley and other All Campus candidates captured key roles. Junior Class saw four Student Party winners led by Bill Astrop.

Quiz Show Set For May 12 On Campus

University students will host Stump the Experts on Wednesday May 12 at 7 30 pm in the Playhouse. Mu Sigma Rho Literary Society sponsors the event modeled after Information Please with questions submitted by students. Prizes planned for top question submitters. Panel includes Professors Allbright Wood and others with student representatives and John Moncure as master of ceremonies. Basil Morissett leads publicity with signs to be posted around campus.
