Richmond College All Campus Candidates Win Nine Offices

Richmond College voters elect nine All-Campus nominees and seven Student party members to 16 class offices. An RG Student Government constitutional amendment passed 263 to 24 authorizing the senate to join a cooperative University council with three fourths approval. Senator-at-large results favored Charles Tulloh of AC 240 to 157 over Tom Butterworth. seniors could vote only for this post. AC also won two class presidencies, Junior Page Hudson 69 63 over Corky Hohman, Senior Johnny Thomas 62 44 over Corky Hohman, Sophomore Clyde Kenyon 96 65 over Charles Wiltshire, with Junior Senator vote close and party lines wavering. Winston Browne (AC) narrowly beat Al Rinaldi (SP) 56 to 52 for vice president.

Lady Mac Christened First Boat on Westhampton Lake

President Dr George M Modlin rode the first officially sanctioned boat outing on Westhampton lake aboard Lady Mac a 12 foot rowboat christened with milk. Eleanor Wright Westhampton College President led the ceremony resuming non swimming sports on the lake. Gifted by Ralph P Mayo the vessel honors Ethel McClaren.

Law School Installs New Student Officers

Recently elected officers of the T. GC. Williams Law School Student Bar Association were formally installed today. The four new leaders include Robert Skahan of Richmond as president, Richard G. Rakes of Norfolk as vice president, J. Mercer White Jr. of Richmond as treasurer, and T. A. Williams as secretary. They will each serve a one year term.

Richmond College Senior Dance Set for June 2 at Millhiser Gym

The Richmond College and School of Business Administration senior dance will be held June 2 from 9 to 1 in Millhiser Gymnasium. Dick Radford and his orchestra provide the music for a Blue Skies themed event with cafe style tables. The dance is described as the biggest of the year by senior class president Tommy Howard, marking a final undergrad gathering for the Class of 50.

University evaluates ways to strengthen honor system

The University President's Advisory Council, led by George M. Modlin, discussed improvements to Richmond College's honor code. Four proposals were offered including in-class sale of exam blue books, separate signing of the Honor Code from Orientation Week, incorporating ceremony into the code, and ongoing lectures on honor year round.

Westhampton May Day Festivities Highlight Greek Theme

Queen Stella Dalton will end her reign at a 9:15 p.m. to midnight ball in Keller Hall. She will be crowned at 3:30 p.m. in the Greek Theatre with Hilda Moore as maid of honor and a court including Nancy Chapin and others. A lantern parade, ballet of Daphne and Chloe, carnival booths, and puppetry from WC will follow, all transforming the campus to ancient Greece.

Sig Eps Spring Formal Tonight at Hotel Jefferson

The Richmond alumni chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon hosts its annual spring formal at the Hotel Jefferson at nine tonight with a preceding banquet. Paul Saunier, Richmond alumnus and chapter president, presides as master of ceremonies, and William L. Phillips, a founder, attends. Mrs Mildred Crooks will be crowned Sweetheart during intermission as Mark Troxell and his orchestra provide the music. The Jefferson marks the first time the event is held there after years at the Country Club of Virginia.

Chaffin Takes Leadership of Virginia Intercollegiate Chess

Bill Chaffin of the University of Richmond chess team was elected president of the Virginia Intercollegiate Chess Association during the second annual tournament in Charlottesville on April 29. The University of Virginia won the event, Virginia State scored six and a half, MCV had three and a half, and Richmond finished third with two points. Richmond’s lineup included Lawrence Alexander, Bill Chaffin, Gerald Seates, and Craig Smith.
