Governor Byrd to address convocation April 3
Governor Harry Flood Byrd will speak at a university convocation in Richmond at noon Tuesday April 3 in the Chapel building. He travels to advocate adoption of new Virginia constitutional amendments and the event includes a honorary degree for Rev George W Sadler an alumnus missionary in Nigeria. The degree had been set for June but moved to April 3 due to Sadler's departure.

University of Richmond Debaters Defeat Rutgers In Close Contest
University of Richmond defeated Rutgers University in a Wednesday morning debate at Chapel Hall. Judges Dr. H. R. McIlwaine C. W. Moss and G. B. Ambler scored two to one for Richmond. The query asked whether the United States should cease armed protection of foreign investments except after formal war declaration. Rutgers team was represented by David Moscowitz and others.

Fiesta Presented by Westhampton Spanish Club
Last Tuesday night El Picaro the Spanish Club of Westhampton College staged The Fiesta in the Red Cross building. The program opened with the farce Las Solteronas performed by Margaret Rudd Ruth Bishop Bernice Hall Ruth Perkins and Roma Lackie. The second part featured a festive Spanish scene with colorful costumes and settings of old Spain. Special attractions included a tango by Betsy Butterfield and Emily Schielinger a Spanish dance by Doris Turnbull and Louise Britton and a duet by Ruth Bishop and Ruth Cox. Madeline Freund directed the music helped at intermission by Helen Harwood Jimeney and Rodriguez.

Benedictine Student Wins Virginia Declamation Contest
George B. Rives Jr of Benedictine College won the Virginia preparatory schools Declamation Contest held last Friday in the Chapel. He performed The Wounded Soldier and received 20 dollars in gold. Dorothy Stratton of Petersburg High School took second with Madame Butterfly earning 10 dollars.
